Audience participation was an exciting element in Alex Lough’s richly textured Sonic Activation performance piece at CVC. The new work, the culmination of a three month long effort, used breath, gesture and motion to create a changing sonic environment that audience members experienced and influenced by moving through the performance space. Members of Florida International University’s Electro-Acoustic Ensemble layered in music and sounds from Lough’s original scores, punctuating meditative passages with high energy phrases creating a 21st century symphonic structure.
